A BIOGRAPHY OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE U.S.

In their Preface, the authors promised to keep their text uncluttered by lengthy footnotes and citations, and they did. Subtitled: Origin, Formation, Adoption, Interpretation, they have achieved a tightly organized introductory book. The handiest section for students comes under Interpretation. Here, the pivotal Supreme Court cases are digested and the evolution of Constitutional Law discussed. The excerpts from the ratification debates of Massachusetts, New York and Virginia are well chosen for the highlighting of issues and introduce the leading debaters. Suggestions for Further Reading.
