KIRKUS REVIEW

This should be a popular supplement to American history studies in its collection of separate articles that tell the story of America today in terms of significant events and people in history. The whaling era, the story of the trappers and fur traders, Alexander Hamilton and his influence in the shaping of the country, the saga of the clippers, the T.V.A., the underground railroad, the California gold rush, transcontinental migration, the textile industry and William Gregg, Pittsburgh and its birth as a steel center, etc. It seems too bad that a pedestrian pace sometimes mars the general readability.
