JASON AND THE BEES

Curiosity about bees gets Jason into a close scrape, but then he meets beekeeper Mr. Weiss who explains to him about hives, honey, and nectar, and about workers, drons, and queens. ""Bees do a lot more than I thought"" says Jason. ""I won't hit them with rocks anymore."" So Mr. Weiss gives Jason a beekeeper's hat and then a hive of his own. Meanwhile there's a little scuffle with sister Elsie who wants to horn in on the project but backs down all too easily. Grinning Jason as pictured is as stiff as Hoban's story; however, beginning readers with a preference for operational information might go along for the quick tour of the hive.
