More woe for Sleeping Beauty, almost the obverse of the above. This time the text drains out all the juices, the pictures are so effete and precious, so pretentious and inappropriate--to children or the story--that one can only marvel at the falsity of it all. The sentences are not writing--""The fairies came to the feast and at the end they gave gifts to the child""; the pictures--a pastiche of medieval miniature and late-Romantic stage design--are not art. And certainly not involving illustration.
