A comprehensive course in starting and running a part-time antiques and collectibles business. Johnson, a regular columnist for various antiques journals, leaves no stone unturned in demonstrating what it takes to make it in what was once thought to be the province of wealthy men's wives. His book is divided into three sections--buying antiques, selling them, and related services. The latter section is perhaps the most valuable. Breaking down the various types of antiques businesses into service, clientele, training, equipment required, advertising and comments on the start-up costs, this section provides a handy, quick referral for prospective entrants into the antiques trade. The main body of the book gives sound advice on buying and selling privately. The only quibble might be that while patently for the part-time dealer, Johnson outlines a level of effort that would seem to require far more time.
