At one point in this irreverently reverent caper, Father Hilary observes: ""Didn't God write straight with crooked lines?"" Well, Father Hilary can weave a crooked line too or handle a Lambretta or a treble whisky. Down in Santo Tomas he manages to attend the Liberator's Casino-night club ""El Sexy,"" beat the tables, become a prime suspect, and finally achieve temporary peace in our time after a revolution breaks out.... Father Hilary, a Don Camillo-ish figure, wears a halo of humor and his story moves easily through pleasant shades of grace and disgrace.
