Another collection of appealing, beautifully composed photos from the author-photographer of Dry or Wet? and Growing Colors, etc. Here, the subject is adjectives' three degrees of comparison; the actors are members of a kindergarten class as they go through a day's activities. Each broad double-spread has three photos in graduated sizes illustrating the words: ""heavy,"" ""heavier,"" ""heaviest"" in the library, where a stack of books grows in the arms of a delighted boy; feeding a pencil to a sharpener to make it ""shorter""; ending the day with the ""loudest"" shout. Meanwhile, a yellow-shirted girl provides unity by appearing in almost every photo; she and her classmates are credited by name in a final note, which also points out that irregular forms are not included and discloses photographic techniques used. A charming concept book, up to McMillan's usual high standard.
