THE COIN OF CARTHAGE

Set in the time of the Second Punic War (Rome, Carthage and Hannibal), this novel deals not with the war but with several interrelated lives behind the battle lines. There are good views of Roman and Carthaginian life on farms, estates, and war-torn towns. While the adult review indicates reservation about the excitement and continuity lacking in the plot, the pictures of everyday life in these times are a matter of constant search for high school students asked to back a fact course with a work of fiction.
