This story of the Eighth Air Force's B-17 and B-24 bombers in their raids on Germany is written by a former command officer who participated in them. It has somewhat more authority and immediacy than the mail saga below and the descriptions of massive raids and epic battles often seem etched onto the page with a piece of flak.
