LOU HENRY HOOVER: Gallant First Lady

Lou Henry Hoover was more than a Gallant First Lady and this biography is not restricted to the White House years. Her early life (and some dubious dialogue) and the Hoovers' globe-trotting are amply represented as is her work for such organizations as the Girl Scouts. Although not all of the author's connections are equally defensible (Lou's response upon hearing that the buying power of the country had to be restored: ""Immediately she ordered new curtains for the White House""), Mrs. Hoover had a get-up-and-go, shown to advantage here, that girls will admire. Sugary but not tedious.
