A BOOK OF BIRDS

By

Publisher: Macmillan

The outgrowth of a personal scrapbook. A book that grew of its own accord and is accordingly more fun, more natural, more spontaneous than most. It is composed of excerpts from the writings of poets, explorers, naturalists, novelists and just plain men and women who have loved birds and observed them. This makes for a delightful diversity of style as well as subject matter -- tropical birds flutter across the scene followed by Antarctic species, humming birds via with eagles, woodcock with nightingales, their habitats, habits, amusing incidents, unusual observations all crowd in to make this one of the most original gift books imaginable. The illustrations are by C. F. Runnicliffe who has done a grand job with 82 wood engravings. An ideal vacation book.
