EUROPE by C. A. Alington

The Dean of Durham writes for his own amusement and ""not to add to historical knowledge but to contract it"" and has produced a readable, easily followed European history from the days of Greece and Rome to 1900, which helps to keep issues and developmental lines clear. There is naturally nothing definitive here, but the presentation has a personal approach, and attempts a logical following of the ways in which Europe came into being, and offers a hurried student the chance to make a rapid survey of a large dose of history.
