INSECTS OF THE PACIFIC WORLD

This is one of a series in which scientists are organizing the known facts about birds, animals, fishes, insects and man in the Pacific World, a world just opening up to the rest of the world. Dr. Durran, American Museum of Natural History, has written a guide to the insects and their relations. He does not attempt to present them (as was done with birds) in association with one group of islands or another. He takes each classification (flies, bees, wasps, ants, butterflies, moths, beetles, true bugs, dragon flies, nerve-winged insects, etc.), breaks down the classifications, indicates where and how found, their value, importance, danger, habits, characteristics. And his final chapters deal with insects and disease -- precautions -- and the know-how of collecting and preserving.
