KIRKUS REVIEW

The ""Jackson team"" is going out for basketball this season and their hero is Bob Hallen. Handicapped by his short stature, Bob is encouraged by school chum Libby who reminds him that many great historical figures made good despite some physical problem, Napoleon, for instance. But the other side of the ledger sees the coach and even some fellow players needling Bob in an effort to displace him in the all important tournament. But faith in his own skill and inner strength transcends bad feelings and in the end Bob receives The Most Valuable Player award and is deemed ""the spark plug of the Spartans"". Basketball fans and participants will discover many excellent playing tips and a good deal of practical advice between the lines of an average sports plot.
