A much needed book to help sincere Christians looking for a sign and too apt to overlook the many signs already set up to help them keep their feet on the right road through this world and on to the next. God has given men the means for living a life of interior union with Him. Prayer is one way, of course, but Mr. Hankey writes to relate that activity to the other activities of the Christian life, and reminding the reader at all times that he must start with God himself, and His purposes for us. There is to be found no technique for spiritual self-improvement, a very ""wicked undertaking"". We are to aim at perfection, not as an end in itself, but because God is who He is. Knowing that we belong to God we can safely pray for our own perfection, for it will be the perfection of one of His possessions; we strive for perfection in ourselves to give Him joy. With this goal in mind, the reader will find this an extraordinarily helpful book to help him grow in grace as his life grows on toward the final experience, the beatific vision of God Himself.
