Bob Thomas, a very green rookie, is acquired by the Panthers in exchange for the popular Jay Rider, and thus enters professional baseball with two strikes against him. An excellent semi-pro pitcher, Bob finds the Jibes of his teammates and his own errors difficult to accept. With Dad Burt's coaching, he improves his technical skill, and with Lynne Burt's advice he absorbs the more intangible rules of the game. In addition, Bob also learns the shady underhanded throws of baseball once he is exonerated of the accusation of having conlved with Dad to throw the pennant. In a climaxing terrific triple play, Bob proves his worth as a professional ball player. Sports writer's lingo used in authentic play by play descriptions will have natural appeal for baseball enthusiasts.
