KIRKUS REVIEW

While playing a pick-up game in a small Florida town, Dan Whitman is spotted and signed to a baseball contract. The book follows him through the various stages of a raw rookie learning his trade. The baseball information is sound but an unsuspenseful plot and a lack of characterization typical of Jackson books make this, in baseball parlance, a slow walk.
