KIRKUS REVIEW

This is more of a combination of history and discussion than Self's The Complete Book of Horses and Ponies (p. 319, J-113) which offered a fairly explicit course in the handling and care of horses. From a beginning chapter on the origins of the horse, the author goes on to describe particular horses and the ""horse sense"" of various historic personages. The chapters concerning breaking, training, showing and care are introductory in length and tone.
