ON TURISTA EN EL BRASIL: ""A Tourist in Brasil

A sincere and unpretentious travel book by a Chilean professor who has made a special study of Brazil. Lots of factual, well-detailed material here on native foods, the historical background, ethnography and economics. Though he describes and the schools with the buoyant enthusiasm of a tourist agency, the highlights of the book are his experiences in the provinces, negro fetish rituals his river trip to Minas Gersas the jewel mines of Teophilo Ottoni. It is interesting to read impressions of a Latin American country from the point of view of a neighboring Latin, for, not having to hurdle an alien psychology, his observations are considerably meatier than those of most travellers from North America. This makes a good guide la ker, as well as an intellectual record of travel memories.
