The introduction by Joseph Auslander is a more than friendly tribute to Galen Drake and pictures a man of many interests and warm humanity and the selections from Drake's radio programs fill in the portrait. For he discusses foibles of men and women, the ups and downs of marriage, books that interest him, fascinating facts, parenthood and children; he gives precepts for happy living and successful human relationships; he philosophizes, quotes poetry, and emphasizes homely virtues. This makes for a book that is full of homespun tidbits, pick-up reading, and quotable sayings. The style is of the fireside, chatty variety, women are ""Bedelias"" or ""wimmenfolk"", and the material is sorta on the Edgar Guest side. Of first interest to the radio audience, secondly to that market which absorbs the man in the street philosophers.
