The growth of a litter of Burmese kittens, in an attractive photodocumentary. The author's color photos of the seven kittens' birth, gradually opening eyes, lurching first steps, and learning to eat and to play are clear and informative, though not always as beguiling as photos of kittens can be. The accompanying text, occupying almost half the space, lucidly sets the pictures in the context of feline maturation, behavior, and ""training"": in characteristic cat fashion, little ""Dandy"" is the one who trains the children who've adopted him. Straightforward and useful, though the photos aren't as clear or as appealing as those in a companion volume, The Puppy Book, first published in 1980 and now in a newly revised edition from Candlewick. Still, both are worthy purchases.
