CASTAWAY BOATS

A well written collection of stories dealing with the experiences of various castaway survivors including such historical episodes as The Hercules off Cape Colony in 1796 and the experiences of the crew with the Kaffirs; the Essex (on which Moby Dick was based); the Bligh story; the ships' boats from the S. S. Jeannette and many others. A top-ranking story is that of the Wager's Longboat in 1741. Good selection of material for any man or boy interested in sea adventures. Unfortunately it is atrociously illustrated, with poor pictures and maps and sea charts.
