Autobiographical reminiscences of the author of Shake Hands With The Dragon, etc., which furnish a view of the many endeavors which finally led to a writing career. Although it is consecutive, it is not a detailed autobiography, but rather a series of sketches, of incidents, of characters, of stories. There are the saints and sinners he has known, from his own family to chance acquaintances, to drunkards, whorehouse madames, opera singers, professors, students, agents, actors, etc., etc. From Iowa to Montana, Chicago, New York, World War I and teaching, this is lively reportage, with lots of amusing stories, that, without cutting deep, mirrors a life in which curiosity was a major trait -- and for which curiosity there was always satisfaction. High in entertainment value.
