KIRKUS REVIEW

That undying unknown sailor, Columbus' cabin boy, is here Pedro Tegero, first met and long detained outside Granada, where the Spanish army is encamped. His berth, and Columbus' whole enterprise, hinges on the surrender of the city by the Moors, which will enable Queen Isabella to look beyond the horizon. Pedro makes friends with other soldiers, makes a friend who may be an enemy, and generally marks time (punctuated by a minor injury, a major conflagration in the camp) until Boabdil, approached by the shouldn't-have-been suspect, decided to give up. Why wait?
