A touching and imaginative story about something most youngsters have thought of- and about- flying saucers. Young Johnny Jenks, hunting fireflies one evening, meets up with a flying saucer and an extremely nice from ""Out There"". The man leaves with him a small glowing marble which can change temperatures, circulate, and bring the space man's voice to Johnny's ears. Johnny's father, a physicist, takes him to Washington to consult at the Pentagon but they are trailed- and taken- by the enemy and the ball provides their means of escape. But when the saucer, and his strange friend return, Johnny learns that a gift can be harmful when it powers are unknown and he gives back the magic ball and has his own reward from the Pentagon.
