THE AVIATION ANNUAL OF 1944

First of what promises to be the ""standard almanac of American aviation"" -- a record of the achievements of aviation from June '42 to June '43, in army, navy, training, air transport, civil air, paratroops and glider troops, and production. One senses necessary omissions and generalizations, but even so it is an impressive record, and the facts presented are vouched for in forewords by authorities such as General Arnold, Major General George, Admiral McCain, and others. The successive chapters give an allover picture of the march of progress, with hints of more that cannot be told, and with valuable definitive facts of types of planes and their performance. One could wish for a somewhat more critical content, but perhaps that is too much to ask. The editors are authorities on the subject on the staff of the N. Y. Times.
