The changes made in the name and the young (17 1/2) life of David Kokolovitz, from the Bronx, delivery boy in a machine shop, to Don Coleman, actor, when he becomes a member of the Marlowe School of Performing Drama- a definitely off Broadway theatre company conducted by old man Marlowe and his fading if fleshy daughter, Angela. Coached- not quite as intimately as had been intimated- by Angela, Dave returns to his own generation in his search for sex- Wanda, who wouldn't, until Laura indicated that she might. And in between hustling on his job, he makes his first night appearance- attended only (22, 44, 66 cents admission) by his family- (""A Schildkraut he's not- a bum he's not""- his father) and the adulating girls.... Some of the brio that goes with the brash- but it's ham-handed, and vulgar in spots.
