For those familiar with A Rocket in My Pocket, this is more of the same: Nonsense Tales. Chants and Songs from Many Lands. The author calls these selections ""formula tales""; they follow a formal pattern to reach a ""verbally logical conclusion."" The variants include catch tales, and endless stories (employing repetition, accumulation, or a logical progression). Examples have been chosen from a number of countries which follow these structures. The book may be of primary interest to folklorists. Children should be receptive to the rhythm and the nonsense, will memorize the stories easily, and probably recite them at length (parents, beware).
