Of the four new additions to the I Want To Be Series, the story in I Want To Be A Zoo Keeper is most constructive, for it shows the small hero learning that zoo keepers are responsible for the well-being of their charges; he resolves that he too will take very good care of his pets. The very large type and brief sentences with easy vocabulary make this as well I Want To Be A Teacher suitable for first graders to read independently toward the end of the year. The illustrations in the latter are sprightly and beguiling, with brighter and richer colors than the other three. I Want To Be A Coal Miner has diagrammatic illustrations which seem a little advanced for first and second graders to comprehend independently. And the text of I Want To Be A Pilot needs a nearby adult to answer the questions which it will probably evoke. All four are of potential use in primary grades undertaking units on occupations.
