MY HEART HAS SEVENTEEN ROOMS

The seventeen rooms of the title belong to a small hospital in Nangal of the northern Punjab, where the author, whose husband was an American construction engineer, worked under a dedicated Indian surgeon, who with limited funds was fighting disease, dirt, flies and superstition. The Bartholomews arrived in Nangal in 1954- the husband assigned to the Bakra Dam. There were three small boys and a fourth arrived while they were there, but Carol Bartholomew found time to meet village life face to face, and to give many hours to service at the hospital. Life in distant countries, the people of importance who came to visit the Dam, the villagers and the hospital work combine to make this of interest to a wide range of readers of all ages.
