KIRKUS REVIEW

Oliver's family, especially his mother who appears at breakfast wearing rose lipstick and a green ruffled bathrobe, is typical of the folks one used to meet in primary school readers. On the other hand, old Mrs. Pritchard, the neighborhood ""witch"" with a secret door in her parlor and a strange habit of disappearing in mid-visit, is a respectable enough enigma for junior grade mystery, even if Oliver's encounters with her generate none of the authentic tension of the Carricks' Old Mother Witch (1975). Just passable.
