Delinquency cannot be dealt with- institutionally- and the authors here, who have spent many years in the field, show how it has been and can be handled before rather than after the fact. The first part of the book, which includes a certain amount of individual casework, shows the motivations (no single cause) in delinquent behavior, whether psychopathic or neurotic, or ""social"". 60% of our youthful offenders are social delinquents and therefore hopeful from a preventative point of view. In the major part of the book, which includes casework based on the experience of various communities, this shows how citizens can take action through coordinated programming, from housing betterment to recreational facilities for the young, to collaborative action between law enforcement officers, social workers and school guidance people. At all times equal responsibility is placed upon the family and community. A sound and experienced presentation for concerned citizens which also provides plans of action on the street where you live or on a wider scale.
