In a quiet, graceful narrative, a child tells how sire and her little brother join Mom in the middle of the night during lambing time, going out to find a new lamb in the pasture and carrying it to the barn. Produced in appealing, diminutive (6""x7"") format, the book uses as illustrations the watercolor sketches that Carrick had completed before his death last year. To those familiar with Carrick's fine work, they tantalizingly suggest what the finished paintings would have been: as they stand, they have an impressionistic immediacy that sweetly evokes the special experience described in the text.
