JULIE, DAUGHTER OF LIBERTY

A tiny segment of America's history in the making is here told in fictional form, with the basic facts authentic as are some of the characters. Azilum is a real place, its origin dates back to the French Revolution, when some of the aristocrats escaped to America, and founded the community as a haven for other exiles from France, and for the royal family. That the royal family perished at the hands of the Revolutionists is history, too; but Azilum remained, its occupants took the and became American citizens. Here in the story of some of those people, idealists, courageous despite their unpreparedness for carving a life out of a wilderness. It is a moving story, and a real contribution to our understanding of the many facets that made up the early story of our country. That Azilum is to be restored makes this important as a trailblazer.
