KIRKUS REVIEW

After a riot in Jamaica, Joanna is taken to Castle Mallion, Cornwall, England, pride of the tragic Trevallions, by Benedict who is next to the end of the line. He also salvages Mayana, a deaf-mute ""mulatress"" and her ""love-child""; and long after Joanna marries Benedict, she wonders about his relationship not only to Mayana but also to a girl Feyella Mapollion who has disappeared. Adorned with some of the silliest writing around -- ""Safe in the pink gloom of my lowered eyelids.
