THE SINGLE PARENT EXPERIENCE

With no advocacy beyond an obligatory acceptance of the new freer-form lifestyles and alternatives in this ""unique"" day and age, the author surveys various kinds of single parent menages drawing on materials from the Boston Children's Service, the New York Child Welfare League, and a number of openly confiding first persons. To each his own. . . decision at any rate, whether it's a male who may wish to bring up a child, or an unmarried mother in her usually more accidental role, or the male or female homosexual. Author Klein does not scant the often neurotic or self-serving motivations which may prompt such choices, or some of the difficulties later (the disapproval of the next generation), or the ways in which a parent may now choose to bring up a child legitimately and workably although it is of course too soon to determine whether there will be any backlash (one sketchy finding here). Illustrative rather than analytic and smoothly enough handled at the mass media level.
