Early American stories, of Indian and Eskimo folk lore, selected and retold by the author. They deal with elemental things, -- the origins of fire, of daylight, of darkness, of the moon and the sun. The same traditional themes of many folk lores are there, -- the Prometheus story, the Rip Van Winkle story, the story of the origin of the Fielades, the Cinderella story -- all in Indian guise. The format is most attractive and the illustrations well keyed to the text. Good reference material for story tellers, particularly in view of the map and the list of principal Indian tribes.
