WEEJACK AND HIS NEIGHBORS by Carroll Lane Fenton

WEEJACK AND HIS NEIGHBORS

Children of six and seven who live in the country and are interested in creatures of the fields and woods would thoroughly enjoy this read aloud; children of nine and ten could read it to themselves. It is probably a wise introduction to nature study, since Carroll Fenton has deliberately made his nature stories brief, and told the things about each of his subjects that children might notice on their own. Occasional introduction of children into his stories gives it a human touch. Varied selection of subjects, -- woodchuck, bank swallows, jumco, turtles, butterfly, squirrel, skunk, rabbit, chickades, garter snake, cricket, etc.-14 in all. The Fenton illustrations are dependably clear and informative -- as well as decorative.
