KIRKUS REVIEW

Provocative puzzlement for Sir Henry Merrivale when wealthy Dwight Stanhope is found knifed after attempting -- apparently -- to burgle his own rare picture, an El Greco. A close circle of wife, daughters, and suitors delude allusions to Peruvian treasure. There's a second successful murder attempt. Neat solution, demanding sharp attention to crime and to deduction built on fine, but very fair, points.
