FRENCH PROVINCIAL DECORATIVE ART by Catharine Oglesby

FRENCH PROVINCIAL DECORATIVE ART

By

Publisher: Scribner

A beautiful book and a superb piece of typography and bookmaking, this has text material that lives up to the promise of the photographs, the spot decorations, the general appearance of the book. Not an exhaustive treatise on the subject but a sound groundwork on history, biography, chronology of the development of French provincial decorative art, in various manifestations,- furniture, textiles, ceramics, occasional pieces, mirrors, metal work and tole, lighting fixtures, rugs, wall papers, boiseries, and so on. Occasional charts and diagrams highlight the outline. And the text gives a following sense of development. Good basic book on the 18th-19th centuries as the basic provincial pattern simplified the palace decoration of earlier times.
