KIRKUS REVIEW

An exciting, absorbing book, a treasure for the history class as well as outstanding biography. In this recapturing of a personality long ignored as such, the story of John Adams from his tenth year through the formulation of the Declaration of Independence makes lively reading. The early chapters give a close-up picture of his school days, his training and first experience in the law, his family and marriage. But throughout there is an awareness of the march of history and the young reader will feel himself an integral part of the Boston Massacre, the Tea Party, the siege and the trials in which Adams took so courageous a part. Mrs. Bowen has caught the mood of the times in this exciting, living history. Excellent supplementary reading.
