The various painful methods of teaching are summarized in full here and the phenomenal careers of both women are recounted in revealing detail. Written with sensitivity, this biography does credit to its subject and goes far in giving a technical understanding of how a six-year-old child, given up by her community as a defective, could mature into an educated and internationally celebrated ambassador of good will.
