Three more titles in Stock's "Festive Year," these very simple narratives feature small children interacting with friends and mothers. Dad is mentioned only in Secret Valentine, where he mails his greeting--as does Mommy, who is there to help the young protagonist make homemade cards. In Easter Surprise, a girl and her older brother hunt for treats with Mommy's loving help; at the party, the Birthday Present chosen by Mommy turns out to be the recipient's favorite. The plot-lines here are very slight, and the information is minimal and generic; but Stock's watercolors, highlighted with pencil, are perceptive and disarming. Not important, but adequate introductions to these events for the very young.
