Two mischievous little bears do precisely what their mother has warned against: feeling wonderfully bold and strong, they frighten the beavers and tease the wolf cubs. Entranced by the bears, tourists are another story—they follow them with cameras until the little Grizzlies cry for mercy and wise Mama Bear comes to the rescue, comforting and scolding and evidently pleased that her cubs have had the lesson she planned. Bellows's brisk, tongue-in-cheek telling is perfect for reading aloud. Her misty landscapes and humorously depicted animals are less effective; still, the bumptious bears' changing expressions are amusing. (Picture book. 4-8)
