Based on a production in the CBS ""Twentieth Century"" Series, this is a dry factual account of Paul's early life, his career as leader of Catholic youth, as diplomatic official, and as Bishop of Milan, and his elevation to the Papacy; subsequently it covers his widespread travels and the course of the Ecumenical Council in each session, concluding with a brief evaluation of his accomplishments. Very circumspect in discussing his predecessors, it is somewhat more analytical with regard to his own problems, both personal and doctrinal. Numerous news photos give the later sections something of the nature of a documentary. There's no insight into the man, little into his mission--it's surface communication all the way.
