KIRKUS REVIEW

An album of photographic and pen sketches, this combines people and travel over the years. It contrasts wartime atmosphere with that of today; it takes in the social, political and artistic worlds; it considers gardens, flowers and birds; it discusses theater, stage and costume design; its thumbnail portraits are accompanied by photographic studies of its subjects; it includes many drawings by the author. Along with glossy pages for the camera work and some of the text, there are colored pastel pages for the rest. Beaton's photographs extend his customary range of notables and his prose often adds polished touches. For worldly tastes.
