With lots of flower tints and scents, this is a perfumed vigil over the misspent life now doomed to death of Althea, Countess Branzini, returning to the home place, Northwater. Leukemia. In between her bouts with pain on ""agony steeped pillows"" she takes sanctuary in the church of Father Bonuean while, on the other hand, there is silently loving, grieving, Dr. Clay. She also makes the confession to her sister re their mother's death (murder? suicide?) which will bring her final casement....Northwater's for that aqucouscent afternoon audience. Carmille with shredded Kleenex.
