KIRKUS REVIEW

This is Ceil Dyer's eighth cookbook, with a slightly southern inclination although there are some dishes from all over down to the homely kasha. Throughout she has a lot to say on decor and you'll find different ways of entertaining -- from the cardtable to the buffet to the smorgasbord to the truly formal. Sometimes she's overly explicit (do everything ahead -- have your hair done the day before) and sometimes not (the strawberry tart recipe is sans shells) but there are some tasty dishes and as always some you will want to avoid (orange shells stuffed with turnips?). For the mature hostess unsophisticated by Claiborne or Childs.
