THE TROUBLE MAKERS

The stifling domesticity where woman's work is never done is just as uncomfortably true here as it was in the splendid Hours Before Dawn. Unfortunately the story gets muffled in the interchanges of harried housewives airing their grievances along with the laundry so that this novel of a disintegrating marriage, a distraught wife, and the specter of a man in a raincoat does not provide the suspense it should. But women will identify and commiserate.
