A book of almost free verse by the Professor of Beloit College who has written several books along the lines of practical and analytical Christianity, here there is a dash of paganism- a pinch of modern metaphysics as well. Believing that ""Poetry is not religion. But is a cognate quest."", Walsh, as a poet, knows that the world revealed by the camera is only partial-- and as a mystic searches under the surface. This is a serious but not a solemn activity, and is best pursued with ""inner gaiety"". The poems are rather mediocre and only in intention rather than execution come up to this rather engaging credo. Not difficult reading, they exert a certain spiritual challenge.
